Chios means mastiha, because of the privilege of that product, with the pleasant flavor, the therapeutic attributes and the variety of its uses. Moreover Chios has two more excellent, unique samples of architecture. One at the region of Kampos with its mansions, surrounded by the citrus gardens and the other at the medieval villages of Southern Chios. Each one looks like a fortress, protecting the precious mastiha from the frequent pirate raids of old times. There are more villages like fortresses:Mesta, Olympi and Pyrgi.
